Who We Are
Townsend Harrison was established in 2003, when the founding director Simon Harrison set up the Company after being a partner in another firm for over 5 years.
In addition to his existing client base, Simon purchased local a firm Townsend & Co. David Elliott joined as director in 2005 adding his wealth of experience to the business. Mark Appleyard joined as director in 2020 with the practice continuing to grow.
The business serves clients all across the UK including Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales.
Townsend Harrison presently employs a very experienced team, many of whom are qualified Chartered or Chartered Certified Accountants. Due to the experience of the team we are able to offer a wide range of services to our clients. We also pride ourselves on being a very proactive accountancy firm, and have assisted a large number of our clients to achieve and exceed their business and personal financial goals.
This success is based on a simple idea. We listen to the client, identify the needs of the business and individuals and advise on the best course of action. We also believe in the provision of accurate, meaningful and timely management information to identify short and long-term requirements of the business and individuals, and respond to those needs in a proactive manner.
Another way in which we are able to assist businesses is through the good relationship we enjoy with all of the major banks and other professionals. This has enabled our firm to build up a network of contacts and assist our clients with all of their business requirements.
Meet The Team
Simon Harrison BFP FCA
Simon is the practice founding director. He set up the practice in 2003 when he merged the existing client base he had from a local accountancy practice, with a long established practice he purchased in Malton.
After qualifying in 1990, Simon worked in industry as a Financial Controller to gain a front end and inside experience of how businesses operate. A few years later, Simon joined a practice where he was able to assist his clients in a more practical and understanding way as a result of his time in industry. Nowadays, Simon leads on the vision of the practice and actively assists his clients with all aspects of their financial needs, from business turn around to ideas on reducing tax liabilities.
When not working Simon enjoys a game of golf, fishing and spending time with his family.
David Elliott FCCA
David has over 20 years’ experience gained in practice. David draws on this experience ensuring his clients have the latest performance related indicators, working with a broad spectrum of clients across many industries. David believes that all businesses require the same level of support and care and it is this belief that David strives to maintain.
Outside of work David enjoys spending time with his young family.
Mark Appleyard ACCA
Mark became a director in December 2020 after previously fulfilling an associate director role for the last 12 months. He started working at Townsend Harrison in September 2014 joining as a trainee. Prior to this Mark studied at Northumbria University and in June 2014 obtained a degree in accounting. Mark became a member of the ACCA in February 2017 and obtained his practising certificate in October 2019.
Mark looks after a large portfolio of diverse clients and often is one of the first contacts with prospective new clients. He undertakes mainly bespoke work with clients such as advising on structure for company start-ups, tax efficient extraction from owner managed businesses and tax saving methods for individuals and businesses. He assists with the preparation of accounts and tax returns when needed. Mark is an expert in cloud based accounting products such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage and Kashflow and can assist businesses with Making Tax Digital and transferring to digital financial record keeping.
Outside of work Mark enjoys family time with his wife and young daughter (and his two cats!) As a family they enjoy trips out and exploring new places. He also enjoys watching football and is a keen Man Utd supporter.
